Shape Your Story: Six Weeks to Transform Your Draft

by Ariane Elizabeth Scholl

Have a fiction piece you’re ready to take to the next level?

In this six-session series, writers will meet once a week for 2.5 hours to workshop pages, discuss craft and strengthen their work under the guidance of Ariane Elizabeth Scholl, a Tin House and StoryStudio Chicago alum. Each week Ariane will teach a lesson where writers will explore a variety of craft topics including: the power of a quick outline, how to hone attention for narrative drive, the importance of specificity, how to sharpen dialogue, and revision tips to tighten the text. Each writer will have the opportunity to receive feedback on up to 25 pages of a short story or novel excerpt from a community of writers, as well as detailed feedback from Ariane.

Details: For writers of all levels who are ready to get feedback on their work.

Writers will submit a short story or novel excerpt up to 25 pages long for feedback from instructor and peers. Pages will be due the night of the first class and will be shared with all participants.

Participants will be responsible for providing feedback on all writer’s work (two writers a week or max 50 pages a week). We will talk about the format and expectations of that feedback in our first class.

Bio: Ariane Elizabeth Scholl is a writer and poet based outside of Chicago. She is the author of the Substack —esque, which has been featured on the literature rising bestseller list multiple times.
